Our name, Nura, is the ancient name for Menorca. It was so named by the Phoenicians who settled around 1500 B.C. They used the island as a point in their trade route through the Mediterranean. Nura means ‘fire’ in Phoenician and according to legend, passing sailors saw bonfires built along the cliffs, which were signals for the original inhabitants. They named this ‘the island of fire’. Signs of these early settlers can still be seen in the stone monuments. The Phoenicians had their own alphabet, which many believe was used to inform the Roman alphabet we use today.

Nuratravel retains the fire, in the passion we have for the island and in our products and services. As a local Menorcan company, we know the island, its culture and its traditions, better than anyone.
